No Silver Bullets

A growth leader says there are no silver bullets in product - just many lead bullets fired consistently - which is also the only strategy for getting a toddler to eat vegetables.

Adriel Frederick was asked about the secret to Facebook's growth. His answer?

'The vast majority of it was just hard work and finding ways to solve the real problems. What are those real problems? They were pretty damn simple but we just grinded on them for a long time. Make it easy to find the product. Make it easy to get into the product. Stupid easy to find your friends.'

No hacks. No tricks. Just grinding on the obvious, simple things.

This is parenting. The 'problems' are simple: get them to sleep, get them to eat vegetables, get them to put on shoes. The execution is grinding on it day after day.

'There's no silver bullets, just many lead bullets.'

You're not missing some trick that makes bedtime easy. There is no trick. There's just doing the same routine, the same way, night after night, until it works.

Stop looking for hacks. Start grinding.

(And yes, every now and then, there's a cannonball - a major breakthrough. But it comes from the grinding, not instead of it.)
