The Dinosaur Brain
Inspired by on Lenny's Podcast
A CPO tells her team: assume executives have a tiny dinosaur brain that can only hold three facts at a time - which is also the maximum processing capacity of your toddler.
Ami Vora gives her teams unusual advice for product reviews.
'Assume that executives have a little tiny dinosaur brain. We all have a little brontosaurus brain and we can really only hold three facts at the same time. The best service you can do is actually do the work of making a recommendation.'
This is your toddler.
'We're going to the park, but first we need to put on sunscreen, and also bring the ball, and don't forget to use the potty, and grab your hat, and say goodbye to the dog.'
Dinosaur brain is overwhelmed. Meltdown initiated.
Simplify to three things max. Actually, simplify to one.
'Potty, then shoes, then car.'
'The breadth that I have means I'm going to be better at pattern matching or giving context. But I'm not going to be better at looking at all the information and coming up with a meaningful outcome.'
Your toddler can't process all the information. But they can do one thing at a time.
Brontosaurus brain. One fact at a time.
