When The Fundamentals Break

A growth leader says that when an animal's core behaviors - diet, sleep, play, socialization - get disrupted, it's a flashing red alarm that something is wrong, and the same is true for your kid.

Andy Johns spent 17 years in startups before burning out completely. His warning sign framework applies to any living creature.

'Go back to animals. When their fundamental functions, when their core behaviors of diet, exercise, playfulness, socialization, sleep - when those things get disrupted, it's a sign that there is something going on here that you need to take a look at.'

Your toddler is communicating constantly. They can't articulate 'I'm struggling,' but they can show you.

Sleep falling apart. Eating changes. Playing less. Withdrawing from you. More tantrums.

These aren't discipline problems. They're signals.

'If your sleep always sucks, if your relationships are constantly strained, there's really no excuse to say "I just didn't know." Your body is telling you: Stop. Something needs to change.'

When the fundamentals break, stop looking at behavior. Start looking for the cause.
