Open The Door First

Calendly's CPO reveals the secret to sending a scheduling link without it feeling like a power move: 'Open the door for the person to share their availability first' - which is exactly how you get a toddler to cooperate with anything.

Annie Pearl gets asked constantly how to send a Calendly link without it feeling aggressive.

'I recommend first really just opening the door for the person you're trying to schedule time with to share their availability first. So instead of just sending the link, I usually start with "looking forward to connecting, feel free to share times you're available, or if easier, you can find time on my calendar using the link."'

This is toddler negotiation 101.

Don't say: 'Put on the blue shirt.'

Say: 'Do you want to pick your shirt, or should I pick for you?'

Don't say: 'We're leaving now.'

Say: 'Do you want to walk to the car, or do you want me to carry you?'

You're not giving up control. You're opening the door for them to feel ownership.

'Opening the door and then adding options - those are two things that really make sure it doesn't put the burden on the other person.'

They feel in control. You get what you need. Everyone wins.
