Make A Decision

A product leader's parting advice was 'It's not about making the right decision - it's about making the decision' because you learn more after committing than you ever could by analyzing.
Anneka Gupta gave this advice to someone leaving her team.
'It's very easy to get into analysis paralysis before making a decision and say, "Well, if I just had this one more data point, then I could make a decision." But the reality is you're always operating off imprecise information.'
Sound familiar?
Should we sleep train or not? Should we push vegetables or back off? Should we switch daycares? Should we introduce the sippy cup?
You could research forever. But:
'Once you commit to a decision, you actually learn more post committing than you would have learned just analyzing. And as long as your decision is 70% right, you can iterate on that 20-30% in either direction.'
Try the thing. See what happens. Adjust.
'If you don't commit, you don't actually get any new information that is high fidelity and high quality.'
Stop researching. Start experimenting. The data comes after the decision, not before.
