Friday Wins

Christina Wodtke

Inspired by on Lenny's Podcast

When's the last time you celebrated a parenting win instead of just cataloging everything that went wrong?

Christina Wodtke is evangelical about Friday celebrations: "People do not value celebrations enough. I've had CEOs who said, 'We didn't start OKRs, but we did start Friday celebrations and oh my God, things are already changing.'"

The ritual is simple: What was the most awesome thing that happened this week?

Now imagine asking that about your family. Not "what went wrong" (you have a running list). Not "what do we need to fix" (endless). Just: what was awesome?

Maybe your kid shared a toy without being asked. Maybe bedtime only took 40 minutes instead of 90. Maybe you kept your cool during a meltdown. Maybe everyone made it through Tuesday.

We're so wired to track failures that we forget to notice wins. But noticing wins changes everything - it reminds you that you're actually doing okay, that progress is happening, that this whole parenting thing isn't just an endless slog.

Start small. Friday dinner: one awesome thing each. Watch what happens.
