Check the Wiring First

Before you implement that perfect bedtime routine, check if the fundamentals are actually in place.
Ryan Singer uses this analogy that every parent needs to hear: "If you're doing a home renovation, you can have the most beautiful rendering of the new bedroom... But if you haven't checked if there's electricity in that wall there or not, it's going to drastically change the cost and the time and everything."
You've read the parenting book. You have the perfect plan for teaching emotional regulation. It involves calm-down corners and feeling charts and deep breathing exercises.
But have you checked the wiring? Is your kid getting enough sleep? Are they eating at regular intervals? Is their life calm enough to even access those regulation tools? Or are you installing beautiful emotional lamps on a wall with no electricity?
The fancy technique is worthless if the basic infrastructure isn't there. And the most frustrating parenting failures come from implementing surface solutions on broken foundations.
Check the electricity first. Then you can worry about the perfect lamp placement.
