Passably Okay Is Still Okay

You could become a passably okay crafts parent. The question is: do you want to spend years of your life doing that?
Dharmesh Shah explains why he never had direct reports at HubSpot: "I'm a reasonably smart person. I think I could become passably okay at management with some training, with some coaching. I don't want to spend any years of my life becoming passably okay at something."
This is permission to not be good at every parenting thing.
You could become a passably okay homework helper. A passably okay hair-braider. A passably okay sports coach. A passably okay bedtime-book-performer. You could invest the calories to become mediocre at things you don't enjoy.
Or you could lean into what you're actually good at. Maybe you're great at adventures but terrible at crafts. Great at deep conversations but terrible at playing pretend. Great at teaching patience but terrible at teaching multiplication.
Your kid doesn't need you to be passably okay at everything. They need you to be exceptional at a few things that matter. And "passably okay" at the rest? That's what YouTube tutorials and the other parent are for.
