Family Momentum
Inspired by on Lenny's Podcast
When bedtime is working, everything works. When it's not, nothing does. Momentum is reflexive.
Ryan Hoover on why momentum matters so much: "Momentum is reflexive in that high momentum leads to more high momentum. Low momentum leads to more low momentum because there's this energy that kinda goes through companies."
This is your family's morning routine. This is bedtime. This is screen time battles.
When things are working, they tend to keep working. The kid goes to bed on time, you get your evening back, you're rested, you're more patient the next day, the kid responds better to your patience, bedtime goes smoothly again. Virtuous cycle.
When things aren't working? Low momentum breeds low momentum. Bedtime is a disaster, you're exhausted, you're snappy, they're snappy, bedtime is worse the next night. Death spiral.
"Someone who might be slowing things down, not really performing very well, that actually does the reverse too," Ryan notes.
The insight here: sometimes the most important thing isn't fixing the specific problem. It's building momentum anywhere you can. One small win creates the energy for the next.
